Range on Bond Bridge?

Hi all! Just received my Bond Bridge. The setup was easy but … range with my ceiling fans is disappointing. We have a small house (~700 sqft per floor) and RF fans in 3 rooms - 1 on the first floor and two on the second floor.

Programming was successful, but had to be done in the same room as the fan. None of the fans received commands if the Bond was not in the same room.

For reference the Bridge is located near a Somfy shade controller. The Somfy bridge is able to communicate with shades in every room. The Bond is not able to communicate with fans in other rooms. I haven’t yet tried to integrate the shades; wanted to start with the fans and already have good shade integration through Home Assistant.

I have to believe I’m doing something wrong; the house is wooden frame with brick. Any suggestions or troubleshooting you can suggest?

Hi Mike,

Do your fan receivers sit inside metal canopies? If so, check that the little antenna wire (is present) sticks out of the canopy (ugly but more effective for RF reception).

Question:
Are your remotes for each fan controlling the respective fan at any distance within your house or at least in the room with the desired bond bridge location?

Remotes can cross rooms, had to change pins on remotes because of other units responding

This is what I’ve also seen. But who knows if the device remotes comply with local, i.e., FCC, regulations. I’ve wondered about that.

This sounds like an excellent idea for any device. I have four window blinds (from SelectBlinds) and each has its “antenna” tucked inside the metal rail. Perhaps it would help on the blinds, as well. to give their antennas a fighting chance!

There are FCC IDs on each remote which should establish they are meeting FCC specs, so this should not be treated as an open issue.
The handling of atenna positions should follow common sense and will effect communication with bond controller as assigned vendor remote. In particular care should be taken for hard to reach hardware installations, e.g. high ceiling fans, window blinds/shades in/out door.
Testing before final installation is most benefial to avoid surprises.
I paid for letting installer attach 5 high up outside shades on a common fused power line without separting each power pluged which made it impossible to hardware reset an individual shade.
